  All-Appropriate Inquiries and Environmental Site Assessments: A Message to Clients is now available without charge at the website of the Institute of Brownfield Professionals ( www.brownfieldpros.org).

The pamphlet begins with a frightening description of the severe environmental risks many property owners and purchasers face: "Imagine purchasing a site for $500,000, only to learn later, during construction, that it's contaminated. That you are legally obligated to clean it up before work may continue. That the unanticipated cost will be $2 million. Or more. The risks are real. You cannot eliminate them, but you can manage them... by relying on qualified professionals to perform a study that comprises what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) terms an 'all-appropriate inquiry.'"

December 11, 2007 Registered Brownfield Professional Criteria Expanded by Institute of Brownfield Professionals - News
  The Institute of Brownfield Professionals' Registered Brownfield Professional (R.B.P.) designation is no longer limited to licensed professionals. By unanimous vote, the Institute of Brownfield Professionals' board of directors has accepted the recommendations of a multi-stakeholder advisory committee and opened the R.B.P. designation to college graduates with five years of relevant experience.

  The new edition of The Brownfield Professional, a newsletter for brownfield and other environmental professionals, is now available free from the Institute. According to Institute Executive Director John P. Bachner, "Volume 2, number 2 continues the Institute's mission of sharing information of interest to those involved with brownfields."

June 11, 2007 From Landfill to Landmark: Save The Bay Center Available Now from the Institute of Brownfield Professionals - News
  The unabridged report comprises a thorough review of Save The Bay’s seven-year Fields Point development project, documenting the interplay between permitting, financing, and clean-up requirements, Save The Bay’s decision-making, and the project outcomes. The project began in the late 1990s, when Save The Bay partnered with Johnson & Wales University to assemble the capital, political will, and design expertise to clean up a vacant, contaminated, coastal site at Fields Point, along the Providence River. Completed during the summer of 2005, the Save The Bay Center comprises a powerful example demonstrating how redevelopment of brownfield properties builds on prior public and private investment, takes advantage of existing infrastructure, and helps to revitalize communities.

  Mine-Scarred Lands (MSL) Initiative Tool Kit The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Mine-Scarred Lands (MSL) Initiative is an effort to improve federal agencies’ coordination and collaboration for the clean-up and redevelopment of hard-rock- and coal-mine-scarred lands. The MSL Initiative has partnered with six communities on demonstration projects, and has developed a tool kit—updated on November 2, 2006 – to help other communities clean up and revitalize former mines by sharing models from the six projects and links to a range of resources.
