Carnegie Mellon’s Lange Elected to IBP Board - November 07, 2006Silver Spring, MD: Deborah A. Lange, Ph.D., P.E., D.E.E., R.B.P., executive director of Carnegie Mellon University’s Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education and Research, has been elected to the board of directors of the Institute of Brownfield Professionals (IBP). According to IBP President W. Jerrold Samford, P.G., “We’re extremely pleased to have Deb Lange on the board. She has had a distinguished career as an environmental consultant and, for the past ten years, a close involvement with Carnegie Mellon. As a result, she brings us a perspective from the world of academia, just as Colleen [Kokas, with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection/Site Remediation] gives us a government perspective.” A 1979 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, Dr. Lange earned her Master’s Degree and doctorate from Carnegie Mellon, in civil and environmental engineering. She began her career as a research engineer with U.S. Steel in 1980, then became a project engineer at IT Corporation. Dr. Lange joined Paul C. Rizzo Associates in 1986, eventually becoming partner-in-charge of domestic and environmental projects. She became executive director of Carnegie Mellon’s Brownfields Center in 1997 and accepted the Steinbrenner Institute post in 2004 Licensed as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Dr. Lange is active in the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania and is a member of Pittsburgh’s newly formed Green Governance Task Force. She is recognized as a Diplomate of Environmental Engineering by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and as a registered brownfield professional (R.B.P.) by the Institute of Brownfield Professionals.
