IBP Unveils New E-Commerce Tools - August 02, 2006

Silver Spring, MD:  The Institute of Brownfield Professionals (IBP) has unveiled new  e-commerce tools that enable individuals to become members and apply for the Registered Brownfield Professional (R.B.P.) designation online. “Making it easy to become a member and apply for the R.B.P. credential online has become essential,” IBP Executive Director John P. Bachner said. He noted that, while “membership is open to all interested parties, the R.B.P. designation is awarded only after close review of a person’s experience and professional accomplishments.”

The Institute has some 1,000 members, but, according to Bachner, “Many do not yet have the experience to become R.B.P.s.” The Institute recently established criteria for awarding its R.B.P. designation to engineers, geologists, and other environmental professionals licensed or certified by a government entity. Criteria for other individuals are being developed with the assistance of an advisory committee comprising representatives of stakeholder organizations.

Established in 2004, the Institute of Brownfield Professionals is a not-for-profit educational organization whose mission is to:
  • provide a forum for discussion of business, regulatory, and technical issues of common interest;
  • represent members in regulatory matters;
  • provide educational and training media and fora to advance members’ knowledge and capabilities;
  • certify the apparent capabilities of environmental professionals; and
  • promote members’ availability to serve those who need the services of environmental professionals.
